Bulk CBD flower grades: indoor, greenhouse, outdoor, organic and exotic, decoded
Straight answer
Grow words on a bulk pound tell you how it was grown. 'Organic' is a federal claim with a certificate you can look up. 'Exotic' has no definition at all. A plain key, and the grades our hemp THCA flower comes in today.
Straight answer. Grow words tell you how a pound was grown: indoor, greenhouse, light-dep or outdoor. “Organic” is a federal claim that needs a certificate, and you can look it up. “Exotic” is a sales word with no meaning in law. None of them tells you what is in the flower; the lab report does. Our stock today is greenhouse and light-dep hemp THCA flower, not CBD flower.

The four grow words
| Word | How it was grown | What it tends to mean for a pound |
|---|---|---|
| Indoor | All under lamps, in a closed room | Most control, most cost per pound |
| Greenhouse | Under glass or plastic, sunlight plus some lamps | Between indoor and outdoor in cost |
| Light-dep | A greenhouse where blackout covers shorten the day to force flowering | Greenhouse light, more than one harvest a year |
| Outdoor | In a field, one harvest a year | Least cost per pound, more variation |
USDA’s grower survey shows how much the method moves the price. In 2024, hand-trimmed floral hemp grown in the open averaged $66.90 a pound to the grower, against $332 a pound for hand-trimmed floral hemp grown under protection (USDA NASS, National Hemp Report, April 2025).
Trim matters as much as the grow. Hand-trimmed buds have the sugar leaf cut away by hand. Bucked or machine-trimmed buds keep more leaf and cost far less.
Organic: a claim you can check
“Organic” on a US agricultural product is regulated. An operation that sells a crop labelled or represented as organic must be certified under the National Organic Program (7 CFR 205.100). A few operations are exempt from certification, such as a farm with $5,000 or less a year in organic sales or a retail store that does not process the product, but they still have to follow the organic production and labelling rules (7 CFR 205.101). How the word “organic” may appear on a label is set out in 7 CFR 205.300.
For an organic bulk pound, ask for the name of the certified operation, then find it in USDA’s Organic Integrity Database. The certificate should list hemp. If the seller only says “grown organically”, that is not the same claim.
Organic says how the plant was farmed. It says nothing about total THC.
Exotic: no definition
“Exotic” has no legal or technical meaning for flower. Sellers use it for unusual strain names, colour, dense buds or heavy frost. It can describe good flower, but it proves nothing. Strain names are not reliable either: a genetic study of retail cannabis found samples sold under the same name were often unrelated (Schwabe and McGlaughlin, Journal of Cannabis Research, 2019).
What any grade still needs
Whatever the grow word, a bulk pound needs a lab report for the same lot, with total THC printed: delta-9 THC + 0.877 × THCA (7 CFR 990.1). For CBD flower, that figure must be 0.3% or less to count as hemp once federal law starts counting THCA on Dec. 11, 2026 (Public Law 119-37, sec. 781; date set by H.R. 6500). State law can be stricter, and some states ban smokable hemp.
The grades on our stock list
The stock list today carries greenhouse and light-dep hemp THCA flower by the pound and the half pound. The grade is printed on each sack. We do not claim organic for any of it, and we do not call any of it exotic. It is not CBD flower.
Our menu today is high-THCA hemp flower, not CBD flower. Smoked, it gets you high and shows up on THC drug tests.

Questions from the dock
- What does indoor CBD flower bulk mean?
- Flower grown entirely under lamps in a closed room. It usually costs most per pound. The word says how it was grown, not what is in it: only the lab report shows the cannabinoids.
- Can hemp flower be certified organic?
- Yes. A farm or handler that sells a crop as organic must be certified under the USDA National Organic Program, apart from a few exempt operations such as very small farms. You can look up a seller's certificate in USDA's Organic Integrity Database.
- What is exotic CBD flower?
- There is no definition. Sellers use exotic for unusual strain names, bright colours or dense, frosty buds. Judge the lab report, the test date and the trim, not the word.
- What grades do you sell?
- Greenhouse and light-dep hemp THCA flower, by the pound and half pound. It is not CBD flower, and each sack shows THCA % and total THC from its lab report.
